		A Ballad
		-------------------------------------------------------

		when bidding him goodbye at the threshold
		she stretched her hands
		to touch the wind
		around his dark mouth
		he went away

		her tears wetted the handkerchief in polka dots
		she complained to the finches and the thrushes
		she went out barefoot into the road
		she gazed --
		he was not coming back

		at night the moon knocked at the window
		she got up -- the windowpanes vibrated
		a narrow stream of kisses ran
		into the night

		doors torn asunder -- walls knocked about
		in her white face -- the snuffed out pupils
		and that is the shine -- of the red red
		knife
