		when the barefoot Berenice
		was being sold in the market
			oh oh oh
		she had weeping earings
		and bracelets
		that sang faintly
			oh oh
		there came a dark-browed pauper
		he was only twenty years old
			oh oh
		he paused
		looked at her legs
		at her dancing earings
			oh
		the black-eyed barefoot Berenice
		put her hands on her head
		pressed the prayer of her fingers into her hair
		the bracelets heavily
			oh oh
		the dark-browed pauper went away
		O Berenice..........
		an old man came
		with a sack of money
		and leashed her neck
		he led
			oh
		the barefoot Berenice
			in her crying earings
		to a funeral repast
